The longest distance before was the 24 Athens Olympic Games, and the torch relay distance was 78, kilometers. The shortest torch relay distance was the Montreal Olympic Games in Canada in 1976, with only 775 kilometers.

The torch relay of Beijing Olympic Games will also set a record for the longest relay time, reaching 13 days. The previous record was held by the Sydney Olympic Games in 2, and the relay time was 127 days. The shortest Olympic torch relay was the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games, which lasted only five days.

The number of torchbearers in the torch relay of the Beijing Olympic Games will also be the largest ever. The total number of torchbearers reached 21,78, which was higher than the previous top two Olympic Games in Sydney in 2 (13,3) and Atlanta in 1996 (13,267).
