Beautiful myth, the disappearing ancient city of Loulan
In 200 BC, the Peacock River Basin was lush with flowers and birds, abundant rain and pleasant climate. The flowing Peacock River is crystal clear and endless, and it breeds a fertile pure land wherever it goes. It was once the cradle of the ancient city of Loulan and the mother river of Loulan.

The camel bell rang, and a camel caravan from the distant and rich Chang 'an City was slowly approaching the beautiful ancient city of Loulan. The destination of their trip is Mugato, an ancient Indian country not far from Wan Li. The dry food brought from Chang 'an has long been empty, and the hungry caravan has entered a new area. The grass here is full of rare and gorgeous wild flowers, and in the tall and lush Populus euphratica forest, birds and animals and distant mountains are jubilant. Cattle and sheep flocked at the foot of the mountain, and the caravan was shocked by the beautiful scenery in front of it. The scenery here is very different from Chang 'an. I also saw many beautiful scenery along the way, but the beauty here is like a fairyland. But no matter how beautiful it is, the caravan has to speed up and hope to find water as soon as possible. At this time, they saw a sapphire-like lake, and the clear water waves rolled gently. Fish swim freely in the lake, which is beautiful. The thirsty caravan stopped and ran to the lake to drink water, only to find that the clear lake was salty and astringent, which made the thirsty caravan worse and dehydrated. Finally, they trudged as hard as they could. The caravan was deeply attracted by this exotic ancient city. They unloaded silk products, porcelain, dried fruits and seeds from camels' backs and went to the ancient city to satisfy their hunger. Only then did they know that the big lake they met on the road to transport gems was the "Blue Ocean Prison".

In the ancient city of Loulan, the people of King Loulan also warmly hosted these guests from afar. They sent Hami melon from Yizhou, red dates from Hotan, delicious barbecue, roast whole sheep and hand-grabbed rice. Loulan people who can sing and dance build bonfires, play kalongqin and beat sheepskin drums. In the cheerful music, men, women and children sang and danced all night.

In order to thank the kind and enthusiastic people in the ancient city, the caravan gave them precious silk and porcelain. When they were about to set off, people in the ancient city prepared many bags of baked nang and air-dried mutton for them as dry food for their trip.

In spring, I went to Qiu Lai, with cold and summer alternating, and camel bells rang in the golden Populus euphratica forest. Last year's camel caravan came back, and their camels were full of exotic treasures from western countries, including grapes, walnuts, alfalfa, sesame seeds, jewelry, spices, glassware, musical instruments, food, and the most precious thing was the seven-color peacock brought from the ancient Indian country of Mojeto. Due to the warm hospitality of Loulan people to the caravan, Wan Li brought it back to Loulan King as a gift, and told Loulan King that this seven-color peacock is a national treasure of Mojeto, which has mysterious power different from all things in the world and can resolve all disasters and bad luck.

King Loulan likes seven-color peacocks very much, bearing the good wish of reciprocity, and gives his precious Hetian jade Pisces Pei to the caravan, so that they can take it back to Hanwang, which Chang 'an gave them. And specially ordered the Peacock River to be sealed to seven-color peacocks as a permanent habitat, which shall not be changed from generation to generation. Since then, it has lived freely by the Peacock River, drinking nectar in the morning and eating flowers at night. Whenever the morning glow reflects the beautiful seven-color peacock, the golden crown feather on its head is noble and gorgeous, shining with brilliant light, and the seven-color wings are dazzling and resplendent. It fluttered its wings and flew to the ancient and prosperous ancient city of Loulan, and the crisp song resounded through the sky. Kind people see seven-color peacocks kneeling and praying, and they firmly believe that this is the ancient city.

The ancient city of Loulan has become more and more prosperous under the leadership of generations of Loulan kings. With the increase of population and the crowded space, the ancient city of Loulan continues to expand, which is followed by the competition for water resources, excessive logging and grazing, land disputes and the destruction of resources, which leads to serious desertification of land and reduction of rainfall. The once clear Peacock River dried up day by day, and the seven-color peacock finally failed to survive the severe climate change, coupled with food shortage, and died quietly on the cracked Peacock River bed.

The young King Loulan was deeply saddened to learn that he still clung to the dead seven-color peacock. He said that it had mysterious power different from all things because of the will left by the former king, and he wanted it to survive anyway. For hundreds of years, this peacock has been safe and sound, but now it has been raised to death by itself. It's regrettable. Seven-color peacocks did not exert their mysterious power until their death. Perhaps only the first king told such a lie, because he was very kind to his pet when he went. He doesn't know that the death of the seven-color peacock indicates the rapid decline of the ancient city of Loulan. When he was going to bury the seven-color peacock by the peacock river, the beautiful young princess looked at the golden feather on the dead peacock and liked it very much, so she had it torn off and made a feather hairpin with it, which was very beautiful to wear in her hair. This is also a memorial to the bird that grew up with them.

With the increasingly serious desertification and yellow sand covering the sky, the glory of Loulan ancient city no longer exists, high-rise buildings collapse and a large number of people move to other places. Even the once sapphire-like "blue ocean of prison" gradually dried up and evaporated into a white saline-alkali land, and the once fish schools had long since disappeared. Thin sheep are struggling to find food in the vast saline-alkali land, and only tenacious Populus euphratica is still guarding the Peacock River basin, which is black and blue, plus the enemy's attack. The ancient city of Loulan is in danger, and people complain a lot. Looking at the people living in dire straits, Princess Loulan also fell into sadness. At night, listening to the roar of yellow sand outside, she fell asleep with a heavy heart. At this moment, a beautiful peacock with seven colors appeared in front of her eyes and told Princess Loulan, "Please take me away, and I will save you. My seven-color feathers have special powers. Red feathers can save terminally ill people, orange feathers can make crops mature quickly, green feathers can avoid national wars, blue feathers can predict all natural disasters, blue feathers bring people hope for life, and purple feathers bring people romantic and pure love. Only golden feathers require users to give up their lifelong wealth.

Sand and stones were flying outside, and a tall thousand-year-old Populus euphratica could not resist the erosion of wind and sand, and finally fell in the dark. The loud noise woke up the dream princess Loulan. She told the scene in her dream to King Loulan, who ordered the seven-color peacock's body to be dug up. Unfortunately, it has long been eroded by salt and alkali, leaving only the golden feather hairpin.

In 448 AD, the enemy of the Northern Wei Dynasty attacked, and the sorrowful King Loulan decided to try anyway, for the sake of the suffering people and the future of the ancient city!

On second thought, the greatest wealth today is food. They did not hesitate to open the warehouse to release food, and distributed all the food to the bony victims, even clothes, gold coins and treasures. The princess's Pisces was originally a pair, but now only the princess's Pisces is still there. She reluctantly buried Pisces in the yellow sand, which was the last thing she abandoned.

With tears in her eyes, she embraced King Loulan, took off the golden feather hairpin in her hair, and prayed for Jin Yu to exert her divine power to save the suffering people and the decaying ancient city. In an instant, the golden light shone, and the ancient city of Loulan recovered its former prosperity and beauty. Everything has been restored, and the ancient city of Loulan has become an eternal pure land of bliss, but they have become invisible, and they are still thriving in their own ancient city. No matter the foreign caravan or the attacking enemies of the Northern Wei Dynasty, they only saw the ruins of the ancient city of Loulan in broken walls, which was gradually submerged in the yellow sand. The people of Loulan who disappeared that night could not find their bodies, so the northern Wei army and the passing caravan who attacked Loulan brought the news to Chang 'an. Everyone knows that the ancient city of Loulan disappeared overnight, but why it disappeared became an unsolved mystery for thousands of years, until an archaeological team entered the ruins of Loulan ancient city thousands of years later.
