Crescent Spring is nearly 1 meters long from north to south, and about 25 meters wide from east to west. The spring is deep in the east and shallow in the west, and the deepest part is about 5 meters. It is named as the "first spring in the desert" and has been one of the "eight scenic spots in Dunhuang" since the Han Dynasty. It was listed as a national scenic spot in 1994.
