Chengdu College (Chengdu University) was founded in 1978 as an undergraduate institution.

In 1983, it accepted a loan from the World Bank, stopped offering undergraduate courses, and changed it to a junior college.

In 2003, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was restored to a regular undergraduate college and temporarily renamed "Chengdu College" while retaining the name "Chengdu University".

The school covers an area of ??2,714 acres, with a school building area of ??609,000 square meters, teaching and scientific research administrative buildings of 334,000 square meters, teaching equipment and instruments with a total value of 137 million yuan, and a collection of 1.787 million books.

The school has formed a pattern of coordinated development of multiple disciplines, focusing on engineering, humanities, and management.

There is currently 1 key discipline and 4 advantageous disciplines in Sichuan Province.

There are 3 first-level disciplines for master's degree and 17 second-level disciplines and professional fields.

The school currently offers 57 undergraduate majors and 21,231 students.

Chengdu University has 34 institutional teaching laboratories, including 3 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 4 school-level experimental teaching demonstration centers, 2 open laboratories, and 5 public basic teaching laboratories; on-campus internship training center

There are currently 1,157 full-time teachers, 129 teachers with senior professional titles, 162 teachers with doctorate degrees; 3 provincial-level teaching teachers, 8 provincial academic and technical leaders (including reserve candidates), 5 provincial-level and ministerial-level experts with outstanding contributions,

It has undertaken 256 major scientific research projects at the national, provincial, ministerial (department) and other levels, 283 horizontal cooperation projects, and 432 scientific research and technology transformation projects for the socio-economic development of Chengdu.

In the past three years, it has published 1,707 academic papers, including 148 included in SCI, EI, and ISTP.

The school currently offers 53 undergraduate majors.

In 2011, the school was approved as one of the second batch of universities under the Ministry of Education’s “Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan”.

In 2012, "Chengdu University (Chengdu University)-Chengdu Chengliang Tools Group Co., Ltd. Engineering Practice Education Center" was successfully selected into the first batch of national engineering practice education centers.
