The Historical Evolution of Liuhuang

Liuhuang Town belongs to Baiyue in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, also known as John Wan City. During the Han Dynasty, it belonged to Jieyang County, Nanhai County. It was established in Shaoxing County in the 1th year of Song Dynasty, and then moved to Yujiao Village, Jieyang. According to legend, when the emperor fled to the south at the end of the Song Dynasty, he sought the protection of God in the ancient temple in John Wan, escaped the pursuer, and got the name "John Wan ancient temple can keep the emperor". Later, in order to avoid the eyes and ears of the Yuan Dynasty, he added the word "keep the emperor" and left it as a memorial to this day.

The ancient banyan and temple in John Wan are still there. In 1993, they were designated as key protected cultural relics by the county government. In the Qing Dynasty, it belonged to Chaozhou Prefecture, and in the Republic of China, it belonged to the second district of Fengshun County. In 1925, when Zhou Enlai and Chiang Kai-shek led the crusade against Chen Jiongming, they set up a military headquarters in the town's Kelan Temple. In 1958, it was changed to Xuliu Commune, 59 years later, it was merged into dapu county, 61 years later, it was transferred to Fengshun County, and in October 24, the former Dongliu and Chabei towns were merged into Liuhuang Town.
