The Cherry Blossom Festival in Zhongshan Park is the first festival in Qingdao every year, and it is a good place for citizens to enjoy flowers and go for an outing. There are more than 2000 single and heavy cherry blossoms in the park, mainly single cherry. Among them, there is a 660-meter-long Sakura Street with cherry trees on both sides. Tourists stand in it, as if entering a pink fairy tale world. From mid-April to May Day, it is the peak season for cherry blossom viewing.
Cherry blossoms in Qingdao have been introduced for nearly a hundred years, and most of them are planted in Zhongshan Park, with more than 20,000 plants. By then, thousands of cherry blossoms will be in full bloom on both sides of Sakura Road in the park, and citizens will come to enjoy the flowers in the spring.
There are more than 2,000 single-petal and double-petal cherry blossoms in Zhongshan Park, Qingdao. They are all Japanese cherry blossoms, among which Yoshino (single-petal cherry blossom) is the most.
The Origin of Qingdao Cherry Blossom Festival
Qingdao Cherry Blossom Festival has a history of over 80 years. It is held in Zhongshan Park in April and May every year. In the 1930s, the cherry blossom viewing activities in Zhongshan Park enjoyed a long reputation. "Donghai Huahai" is listed as one of the ten scenic spots in Qingdao. The famous writer Cang Kejia once wrote "Qingdao Cherry Blossom Festival" to express his feelings for Qingdao Cherry Blossom Festival.
After the founding of New China, Qingdao Municipal People's Government attached great importance to cherry blossom viewing activities, continuously increased other flower varieties with the same flowering period as cherry blossoms, and held various exhibitions, acrobatics, artistic performances and other entertainment activities during the flower show, further adding to the charm of the flower show.
Now every spring, many kinds of cherry blossoms, such as single cherry blossoms, heavy cherry blossoms, mountain cherry blossoms, etc. 10, and flowers such as peach blossoms, peonies and rhododendrons compete to bloom, attracting a large number of Chinese and foreign tourists to enjoy the flowers. It receives as many as 6,543,800 Chinese and foreign tourists every year, and the passenger flow on peak days can reach more than 200,000.
