Because I need to decorate my home and buy some furniture, I spent the whole morning shopping at Red Star Macalline. By noon, my stomach was already growling unsatisfactorily.
Of course, this was not a problem for me. I opened the navigation on my phone and soon a bunch of information about nearby food stores was displayed.
A wonton shop attracted me. The picture of the wontons on it made me very appetizing. The reviews were also good, so I no longer thought twice about going to this restaurant for lunch.
This is a shop called Bao Daxiang Handmade Wontons located near the Meichuan Road and Zhenbei Road bus stations, just one intersection away from Red Star Macalline.
If you take the subway, the nearest subway is Zhenbei Road Station on Line 13. It takes about ten minutes to get off from Exit 3.
Because the front of this store is very large, you can clearly see the five large acrylic luminous characters of "Bao Daxiang Handmade Wontons" from a distance, and there are also three bright red characters of "Braised Meat Pot". You won't know until you go in.
When you enter, you will find that wonton shops can also be high-end, large-scale, and fashionable.
The store is estimated to be at least 80 square meters. It is far from an environment comparable to ordinary street food. The simple and stylish decoration is refreshing.
The exposed operation room allows people to see the "handmade" meaning at a glance, making people feel more at ease and comfortable while eating.
From the menu, you can find that there are many varieties of wontons here, as well as noodles, braised pot, snacks, etc.
I have long heard that Shanghainese prefer to eat shepherd's purse wontons. Through my understanding, I found that this restaurant's wontons are a long-established and big brand with a relatively authentic taste, so I chose a shepherd's purse and fresh meat wontons.
Since I prefer fried pork, I heard that this fried pork cutlet is also excellent, so I ordered one too.
I found a seat and sat down. From the open stall, I could see that two young ladies were busy. The pot was steaming, and the round wontons were quickly put in one by one.
From time to time, the sound of sizzling frying comes from the frying area not far away.
Before I even started eating, I could smell the aroma of pork chops, which made me swallow a few mouthfuls of phlegm.
After waiting for a few minutes, a bowl of crystal-clear wontons was brought up. I picked it up gently with chopsticks. After one bite, the strong umami flavor stimulated the tip of my tongue, and I couldn't help but take a few more bites.
Unlike other restaurants where the wontons are very small, maybe just one bite, but Bao Daxiang’s handmade wontons are so big that it will take you several bites to finish them.
After eating a few, I took a closer look at the wontons. It looked just like what I found online. The wonton wrappers here are particularly chewy. Although the color is slightly wheat-colored, they are very juicy.
Of course, my fried pork chop was also prepared quickly. This is a fried pork chop known as "golden". It is very attractive just from the color. When you put it in your mouth, it is crispy and refreshing, which makes people linger.
After carefully comparing the pork chops I have eaten for so many years, this pork chop is definitely in the top three.
Because I was already full, I wanted to try other products from this restaurant, but the portions of the wontons and pork chops were extremely large, so I had to come back next time.
Another thing to mention is that there is a parking space in front of the wonton shop, which is very convenient for people with cars.
