The school, formerly known as Taigu Geological School, was founded in 1956. 1958 moved to Taiyuan and changed its name to Taiyuan Institute of Geology (undergraduate); 1959 moved to Fuzhou City, Jiangxi Province, and was renamed Fuzhou Institute of Geology; 1978 was named Fuzhou Institute of Geology; 1982 was renamed East China Institute of Geology; In 2002, it was renamed Donghua Institute of Technology.
The school has two campuses, Nanchang and Fuzhou, with a total campus area of more than 2,500 mu. There are more than 20 teaching units and 72 undergraduate majors; There are 1 post-doctoral research mobile station, 1 post-doctoral research mobile station, 1 academician workstation, 1 first-class discipline authorized by doctor's degree, 19 first-class discipline authorized by master's degree and 12 master's degree authorized categories.
