The origin of Dianbai: Dianbai established a county in Gaoliang in the second year of Liang Datong (AD 528), and established a county in the ninth year of Kaihuang in the Sui Dynasty (AD 589), both named "Dianbai".

There are two legends about the reason.

One theory is that when Dianbai was first built and located, the mountain behind it was Baoshan.

There is a cave named Longqiuyan on the cliff of Baoshan, which is unfathomable.

If a stone is thrown into a rock, there will be thunder and lightning immediately, and white light will flash, so the county is named Dianbai County.

When the county was changed to a county in the Sui Dynasty, the administrative seat remained unchanged, which is now Changpo Jiucheng Village in Gaozhou.

During the Chenghua period of the Ming Dynasty, the county seat was moved from the old city to Shendian Acropolis (today's Electric City), and the county name remained the same.

The second theory is that from Dianbai to Leizhou Peninsula, located in southwestern Guangdong, the land is mostly arid. Thunder and lightning occur all year round, especially in summer. They often destroy things and hurt people and animals, so the names Dianbai and Leizhou are given.

This theory is named after the white lightning and lots of thunder and lightning.

Dianbai Hydrology The main rivers include Shalang River, Rudong River, Longzhu River, Madian River, Daqiao River, Magang River, Danchang River, Zhaitou River, etc.

Among them, Shalangjiang River is the largest river in Dianbai County. It is located in the northern part of the county. It originates from the south valley of Qingeding Mountain in Nahuo Town and flows through Nahuo, Luokeng, Shalang, Xiadong, Lintou and what is now Maogang District.

Yangjiao, Poxin, Qijing, Xiaoliang and other towns merge into Jianjiang River and then into the sea. The main stream is 112 kilometers long (more than 80 kilometers in Dianbai territory).

The Shalang River has many tributaries and a wide drainage area. The main tributaries include Huangling River, Shitan River, Lilian River (Miaobei Water), Liping River (Huadong River), Longji River (Guanzhu River), and Yutou'e River (Bai River).

The banks of the Shalang River are mostly alluvial plains with fertile land, rich in rice, peanuts and vegetables. It is one of the main producing areas of Dianbai grain.

Rudong River is in the eastern part of the county, originating from the southeast of Ehuangzhang Mountain, flowing through Wangfu, Mata, Lingmen and other towns, and converging into Shaba Port. It is the boundary river between Dianbai County and Yangxi County.

The main stream is 54 kilometers long.

The main tributaries include Wangfu River and Longwan River.

Dianbai Terrain The terrain of Dianbai County slopes from northeast to southwest. It is high in the north and northeast and low in the south and southwest. The south is surrounded by the South China Sea and has roundabout harbors.

There are three main types of landforms. One is mountainous and hilly landforms, which are mainly distributed in the towns of Wangfu, Luokeng, Nahuo, and Huangling, the northeast of Shalang and Guanzhu towns, and the Fushanling area in the northwest of Xiadong Town.

The second is the platform landform, which is mainly distributed in parts of Lingmen, Diancheng, Magang, Shuzai, Bohe, Danchang, Chencun, Shuidong and other towns.

The third is plain landforms, mainly alluvium along both sides of the river and along the coast.

The plains along the river are distributed in parts of Lintou, Xiadong, Guanzhu and other towns on both sides of the Shalang River, and in parts of Mata Town and Wangfu and Lingmen towns on both sides of the Rudong River.

In June 2020, the Guangdong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism recognized Dianbai District as the second batch of provincial-level all-for-one tourism demonstration zones in Guangdong Province.
