The Historical Evolution of Tayang Town
Tayang Town has a long history and rich cultural background. Tayang, commonly known as the county seat, gradually became a market in the Yuan Dynasty, known as the county store. From Yuan Dynasty to Mindfulness Period, the county was ruled by Huitong County, and this system was continued in Ming and Qing Dynasties. In the Republic of China 17 (1928), the town was established as an attached city; in 1950, the county was withdrawn as Jiaji; in 1958, it was renamed as Tayang. For nearly a thousand years, it has been a historic town in the east of Qiongdao and the cradle of Qionghai's outstanding humanistic spirit. According to historical records, Tayang, a traditional market town with a history of hundreds of years, has the charm of an ancient city. Among the "Eight Scenes in Qiongdong", the scenery such as "Duanshan Lingcui", "Zhaoshui Ningxiang" and "Kuita Lingxiao" are very beautiful and famous. Regrettably, after the founding of the People's Republic of China, due to the neglect of protection, the style of the ancient city has basically disappeared, the Baili Lotus Pond has been completely filled and returned to the field, and the Jukui Temple complex with a history of nearly 400 years has also been demolished. At present, only one Jukui Tower, which was built in the thirty-third year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1605), has been listed as a provincial key cultural relic.
