What is the geography and climate of Kashgar?

The Kashgar region is located deep in the middle of Eurasia and in the southwest of Xinjiang, China.

It is bounded by the Taklimakan Desert to the east, Keping County and Awati County to the northeast, Artush City, Wuqia County and Aktau County to the northwest, Pishan County to the southeast, Tajikistan to the west, and Tajikistan to the southwest.

Afghanistan and Pakistan border.

The total length of the border is 888 kilometers.

There are three neighboring countries: Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and India.

The total area of ??the region is 162,000 square kilometers, with a width of about 750 kilometers from east to west and a length of 535 kilometers from north to south.

The Kashgar area is surrounded by mountains on three sides and open on one side. The southern range of the Tianshan Mountains lies in the north, the Pamir Plateau stands in the west, the Karakoram Mountains in the south, and the Taklimakan Desert in the east.

Surrounded by mountains and deserts, the alluvial plains of the Yarkand and Kashgar rivers are like green gems embedded in them.

The entire terrain slopes from southwest to northeast.

The landform outline is composed of stable tectonic units dominated by the geosynclinal fold belts of the Tarim Basin, Tianshan Mountains, and Kunlun Mountains.

The moist air currents from the Indian Ocean are difficult to reach, and the cold air currents from the Arctic Ocean are also difficult to penetrate, resulting in the arid and hot warm temperate desert landscape of the Kashgar area.

The melting water of ice and snow in the mountainous areas has created conditions for the development of oases, forming two famous oases in Kashgar and Yarkand River.

The highest K2 peak in the territory is 8,611 meters above sea level, the lowest point in the Taklimakan Desert is 1,100 meters above sea level, and the average altitude of Kashgar city is 1,289 meters above sea level.

The Kashgar region is located in the hinterland of Central Asia. Restricted by the geographical environment, it belongs to the warm temperate continental arid climate zone.

The territory has four distinct seasons, long sunshine, large annual and daily temperature changes, scarce precipitation and strong evaporation.

The summer is hot, but the extreme summer period is short; the winter is not severely cold, but the low temperature period is long; the spring and summer are windy, sandstorms, and dusty.

Due to the complex terrain and large climate differences, it can be roughly divided into 5 areas: 1. Kashgar Plain Climate Area.

Including the vast alluvial plain area in the north and central part of Kashgar, the annual average temperature is 11.4°C to 11.7°C, the annual precipitation is 39 to 664 mm, and the four distinct seasons are spring, summer, autumn and winter.

The annual and diurnal temperature changes are large, and the precipitation changes significantly.

The sunshine is long, the evaporation is strong, and the climate is dry.

There are long periods of low temperatures in winter and long and hot summers.

The temperature rises quickly in spring, and there is often late spring cold; the autumn is short, and the temperature drops rapidly.

There are strong winds and sandstorms in spring.

Dusty days are frequent.

2. Desert desert climate zone.

The southern part of Kashgar, the eastern part of Maigaiti and the northeastern part of Yecheng belong to the Taklimakan Desert desert area.

The continental climate is extremely significant, with the annual average temperature above 11°C, cold winters, extremely hot summers, and dramatic changes in temperature and humidity.

Precipitation is scarce and the climate is dry, with annual precipitation below 40 mm.

There is a lot of wind and sand and strong sunshine.

3. Mountain and hilly climate zone.

In the middle of Yecheng, north of Bachu and Jiashi, and in the west of Shufu, Yingjisha and Yarkand, there are mountainous and hilly areas with an altitude of 1500 to 3000 meters.

The annual average temperature is below 11°C, the winter is long, the summer is short, and the annual precipitation is more than 70 mm, mainly concentrated in summer, with heavy rains and even flash floods occurring from time to time.

The climate in mountainous valleys is suitable, with warm summers and warm winters.

4. Pamir Plateau climate zone.

Mainly Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County.

The annual average temperature is below 5°C, with long and cold winters and mild summers.

There is less precipitation, mainly concentrated in spring and summer.

There are many windy days, sufficient sunlight, strong radiation, and clear weather.

5. Kunlun Mountain climate zone.

It mainly includes the southern part of Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County and the southern part of Yecheng County.

The annual average temperature is below 5°C, the mountain peaks are covered with snow all year round, the climate is severely cold, the air is dry, low pressure and oxygen are lacking, there is heavy wind and snow, and the weather is changeable.

The whole year can be divided into cold and warm seasons.
