Flowers are small, unisexual and hermaphrodite; Male flowers are green and white, arranged in erect branched spikes and gathered at the top of branchlets; Each female flower is hidden in the involucre and arranged in a short spike shape; The involucre is about 2.5 cm in diameter, with dense antlers and spikes outside. It splits when it matures and contains a nut. Nuts are nearly ovoid, about 12 mm long, and yellow-brown. Flowers bloom in summer.

The shell of this plant (Castanea henryi shell) is also used for medicine.
