Step 1: make a bracket
Before making a sunflower lollipop, we must make a simple bracket, which can be composed of two parts. At the bottom, we only need a relatively straight pole or fence, which is used to bind the poles of sunflower together and tie them into a bunch to form a lollipop pole.
At the upper end of this pole, we can make a simple shelf or other places where the branches of sunflowers can be fixed, which is convenient for us to fix the branches at the upper end of sunflowers into the shape of a lollipop, that is, to bundle the lower ends into a bunch, so that the upper ends can grow freely. This bracket has no special shape, but Ayong recommends using plastic materials such as iron wire to make it.
Step 2: Trim the lateral branches and buds.
After the scaffold is completed, we need to prune the sunflower itself, pruning all the lateral branches and buds at its lower part, leaving only a bare rod to form a lollipop stick. It should be noted that this process needs to be repeated. As long as there are lateral branches and buds sprouting on the lower pole of the sunflower, it should be pruned in time to maintain the shape of the lollipop.
Step 3: Top repeatedly.
For the lower part of the sunflower, we need to trim it repeatedly to keep it upright, but for the top of the lollipop, we need to top it repeatedly to make it sprout more lateral branches and buds, which is the main force of sunflower flowering.
The method of topping is actually very simple. For example, if we want to keep the diameter of lollipop at about 10 cm, then when each branch grows to about 10 cm, we will top it and prune it once. After repeated many times, the upper part of lollipop of Sunflower will grow very luxuriantly, and when it blooms, it will directly become a big flower ball.
