Red Poria can move water, and benefit from dampness and heat. It is used to treat dysuria, gonorrhea and diarrhea.
White Poria can seep dampness and diuresis; strengthen the spleen and stomach; tranquilize the mind and tranquilize the spirit. It is used for urinary incontinence; edema and distension; phlegm and coughing; vomiting; deficiency of the spleen with little food; diarrhea; palpitation and restlessness; insomnia and forgetfulness; spermatorrhea and leucorrhea.
Atractylodes macrocephala and Poria are commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine, where Atractylodes macrocephala has the effect of drying dampness and strengthening the spleen, and Poria has the effect of inducing dampness and seeping dampness, and both of them have been used together in urinary dyspepsia and oedema caused by the deficiency of the spleen and dampness.
