Jingzhou is one of the nine states in the Han Dynasty described in the Chinese classic "Yu Gong". "Yu Gong": Jing and Hengyang are Jingzhou. Jingshan is in today's Nanzhang County, Hubei Province. Jingzhou is roughly equivalent to today's Nanzhang County. The entire province of Hubei and Hunan, from the Jingshan area to the south of Hengshan Mountain, is one of the areas originally inhabited by the Han people.

Jingzhou City, formerly known as Jiangling, Yingdu, and Nanjun, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Hubei Province. It is located in the central and southern parts of Hubei Province. Jingzhou City is the central city in central and southern Hubei and one of the transportation hubs in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River approved by the State Council. Jingzhou City is located in the south-central part of Hubei Province, the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, and the hinterland of the Jianghan Plain, between 111°15′-114°05′ east longitude and 29°26′-north latitude. 31°37′, adjacent to Hannan District of Wuhan City in the east, facing Jiayu County and Chibi City in Xianning City across the river in the southeast; adjacent to Yueyang City in Hunan Province on the south bank of the river, bordering Yiyang City and Changde City; and connected to Yichang City in the west. Dangyang City, Zhijiang City, Yidu City, and Wufeng County are connected to Jingmen City, Qianjiang City, and Xiantao City in the north.

The maximum horizontal distance from east to west in the jurisdiction is about 274.8 kilometers, and the maximum vertical distance from north to south is about 130.2 kilometers. The Jiajiang River is distributed in a strip, and the Yangtze River runs through the city from west to east, with a total length of 483 kilometers.
