What kind of dog is Schnauzer? Good at what? What are the disadvantages?
Standard of mini schnauzer (AKC)

Overall shape

Mini Schnauzer is a strong and lively dog, which is similar to its close relative standard dog in general form and also has an agile and active personality.

[Mini Schnauzer's Character]

A typical mini schnauzer should be alert, brave and obey orders. He is friendly, intelligent and willing to please his master. Don't show excessive aggression or timidity.

disadvantage?

Too toy, inattentive, timid, rude and not smart.

Body proportion

Body type 12 to 14 inch. Strong, almost square, about the same height and length, with sufficient bone mass, there should be no tendency to be a toy dog.

[Mini Schnauzer's Head]

The head is solid and rectangular, and the width gradually decreases from ear to eye, and further decreases to the tip of nose. The forehead is flat. The skull is flat and the long front is as long as the skull. The muzzle is firm, commensurate with the skull, the end is slightly pure, and the beard is rich, which strengthens the rectangular effect of the head.

disadvantage?

The head is rough and the cheeks are round and thick. Tooth scissors bite. Scissor bite index: when the mouth is closed, the upper front teeth overlap with the lower front teeth, and the inner surface of the upper front teeth just touches the outer surface of the lower front teeth. If the mandible protrudes, the lower package tooth or the upper jaw protrudes; Horizontal bite.

[Mini Schnauzer's Eyes]

Dark brown, deep concave, oval, rich in expression.

disadvantage?

Eyes are too big or too round. Eyes are too thin and narrow.

[Mini Schnauzer's Ears]

Both ears are the same shape and length, with sharp corners. Keep balance with the head, and the length should not be too long. Located at the top of the skull, it stands upright at the inner edge and forms a bell shape as small as possible along the outer edge. If it is a dog with clipped ears, the two ears should match. The same size and ear shape should also have the tip of the ear, proportional to the head, and the root of the ear should be above the skull.

When the ear is not cut, it is small, V-shaped and folded forward to the skull.

disadvantage?

The ratio of ears to head is too long.

[mini schnauzer's neck, back line, trunk]

The neck is strong and arched, mixed with the shoulders, and the throat skin is tight. The trunk is short and deep, and the chest extends at least to the elbow. The ribs are well bent, and the body and back extend well to the short waist. The lower torso is not folded at the lumbar fossa. The topline is straight and slightly inclined from shoulder to heel. The shoulder is the highest point of the body. The total length from chest to hip is the same as shoulder height.

disadvantage?

The chest is too high or too narrow, and the back is sunken or arched.

The tail root is tall and upright. When the dog's coat length is reasonable, the tail length can be distinguished as long as it is above the topline. The tail root is too low.

[The predecessor of Mini Schnauzer]

From all angles, the front legs are straight and parallel. The metacarpal bone is very strong and has a good bone mass. The chest is deep and the front legs are separated to avoid folding. The elbows are close together, and the ribs gradually extend from the first rib, so that the elbows can move close to the body.

The shoulders are sloping and muscular, but they are still flat and even. The position of the shoulder is completely backward, and the top of the scapula is perpendicular to the elbow when viewed from the side. The tips of the shoulder blades are close together. The scapula is inclined forward and downward at an angle, so that the forelimbs can be fully extended forward without getting stuck. Shoulder blades and upper arms are long, so that the chest has enough depth. The feet are short and round, similar to those of a cat, and the pads are black and thick. Arch, compact.

disadvantage?

Loose elbows.

[The back of Mini Schnauzer]

The muscles in the second half are strong and the thighs are inclined. The knee joint is completely bent. There is enough angle, and the tarsal part extends beyond the tail. The back half should not be too high or higher than the shoulders.

disadvantage?

The coat is too soft, too smooth and too silky.

[Color of Mini Schnauzer]

The recognized colors are salt and pepper, black silver and pure black. There is no such thing as silver. Three colors have the same skin pigment, for example, there should be no white or pink skin spots anywhere on the dog.

Salt and pepper color

The typical salt and pepper coat color is a combination of black and white striped hair (referring to the color change from deep to shallow and then to deep from hair root to hair tip) and black and white non-striped hair, and striped hair is dominant. All colors of salt and pepper are acceptable. At the top layer of hair, textured hair and non-textured hair can be a mixture of colors from light to dark (brown shading is also acceptable). In salt-and-pepper dogs, the salt-and-pepper texture fades to light gray or silvery white in eyebrows, beards, cheeks, under the throat, ears, chest hair, under the tail root, leg grooming hair and retreat. Hair under the body may fade, but if it does, the faded hair cannot extend above the elbow on the side.

Black and silver

Black and silver have the same color change as salt and pepper. The whole salt and pepper color must be black. The black coat of the black silver dog is thick black, and the inner coat is black. The plucked part will not fade, and there will be no earthy tones, and the hair under the body will be darker.

black

Black is the only recognized solid color mini schnauzer. The ideal black color should be: the outer hair is thick and shiny, and the bottom hair can be slightly sparse and dull, which is natural and should not be deducted. The dialed part will not fade, and there will be no brown tone. The shearing and plucking areas will appear light black. It is acceptable to have white spots on the chest and a single white hair on other parts of the body.

Unqualified defect

Pure white or white stripes, mottled or white spots are on the colored parts of the dog's body, and black mini schnauzer can have small white spots on the chest. In salt and pepper, black silver and pure black dogs, the throat and chest can fade to gray or silver white, and there should be a natural coat color between these faded areas. Any uneven, connected white lines and white spots in these parts are regarded as white spots and disqualified.

[Mini Schnauzer's gait]

The gait at a trot is used to evaluate the posture of a dog. From the front, the elbows of the front legs are close to the body, straight forward, and the legs are neither too close nor too apart. Seen from the back, the hind legs are straight and move in the same plane as the front legs.

Please note: although it is generally believed that the hind legs and front legs move in the same plane during a trot, they are rarely introverted. The first half of introversion starts from the shoulder and the second half from the hip joint. No matter from the front or the back, the legs are straight from these points to the mat. Mini schnauzer with correct gait is almost imperceptible. However, the inward inclination of the footsteps does not mean that the tarsal rotation, toe too close, stride, elbow valgus and other postures are correct.

Viewed from the side, the front legs are fully extended, the rear legs are strongly driven, and the tarsal joints are completely raised. Feet are neither varus nor valgus.

[Defective Mini Schnauzer]

Forward step, oblique step, paddle gait of forelimbs (elbows and shoulders are retracted, so that forelimbs swing forward in a blunt arc), riding gait (like a horse, forelimbs are raised high and wrists are bent), and the rear driving force is insufficient.
