When you were young, you might often see the New Year pictures of "Carp yue longmen" on the street. Two lovely big fat carp jumped out of the waves and tried to pounce on the huge Longmen. Yue longmen, a carp, symbolizes an unyielding spirit, which makes him more brave.
Many people think that carp yue longmen is a legendary story, and Longmen is a fictional place name imagined by the ancients. In fact, this carp jumping dragon gate really exists in reality. Where is it? In Shaanxi Province and Shanxi Province. How can one place appear in two provinces? Quite simply, this Longmen is located at the junction of Shaanxi Province and Shanxi Province, and each province has its own part.
This needs to talk about the Yellow River first, because these unyielding and aggressive carp all come from the Yellow River. The Yellow River originates from the Bayan Kara Mountains in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and winds forward after leaving Erning Lake and Zhaling Lake. After leaving Laji Mountain in the southeast of Xining City, the capital of Qinghai Province, the Yellow River entered Gansu Province, and the terrain was still high. The Yellow River flows in the southwest-northeast direction and flows eastward along Bayannaoer Hetao Plain in central and western Inner Mongolia.
After the Yellow River passed Baotou, it turned another big bend in Tuoketuo County, Inner Mongolia, from north to south, with Guancen Mountain and Luliang Mountain on the east bank and Loess Plateau on the west bank. Interestingly, the border between Shaanxi Province and Shanxi Province is about 800 kilometers long, but there are few land borders. The boundary between the two provinces is simple: Shanxi is in the east of the river and Shaanxi is in the west of the river.
As the boundary river between the two provinces, the Yellow River flows south. After the formation of the famous Hukou Waterfall, the Yellow River formed a huge and wide area between Hejin City, Shanxi Province and hancheng city City, Shaanxi Province. It looks like a long and narrow lake, where lovely big fat carp jump.
Longmen also has a name called Yumenkou, which is related to Dayu at first sight. According to legend, in ancient times, there was a big flood in the world, and Dayu was ordered to control the water. Dayu came to Longmen Mountain near the Yellow River and saw the river surging. He thought of a way. Dayu ordered people to dig Longmen Mountain, and the river flowed slowly along it.
According to the distance of the ancients, Longmen Mountain is about 80 miles northeast of Hancheng County, Shaanxi Province, and about 30 miles northwest of Hejin City, Shanxi Province. Longmen is in danger of the Yellow River. More importantly, the section of the Yellow River north of Longmen flows through the Loess Plateau, and the terrain is relatively high. Below Longmen, the terrain of the Yellow River becomes low and flat. The Yellow River has formed a huge momentum in the Longmen section, which is one of the reasons why the section of the Yellow River below Longmen is widened.
Because it is in such a special geographical environment, Longmen has been called "the mainstream of great rivers and the dangerous plug in the middle reaches of the Yellow River" since ancient times. The name Hejin has something to do with the topography of Longmenshan. A famous historical figure was born in Longmen. He is Sima Qian, the author of Historical Records, which Sima Qian himself mentioned in Historical Records-A Self-Narration of Taishigong.
Longmen, which straddles the banks of the Yellow River, has been the strategic artery from Guanzhong (Shaanxi) to Hedong since ancient times. All the military strategists who wanted to fight for Shaanxi and Shanxi in the past dynasties fought for the hegemony of Longmen. It doesn't matter if your troops are weak. As long as they can hold the dragon gate, no matter how strong the enemy is, they can't get in.
In the middle and late period of Wuhu Sixteenth Middle School, the former Qin Dynasty, which unified the north, collapsed, and Yao founded the country in Guanzhong, which was the later Qin Dynasty. In Shanxi, a Western Yan State was established by Murong. Yao Xing, the emperor of the late Qin Dynasty, wanted to send troops to attack Hedong, and his troops were far stronger than Xiyan's, while Xiyan's troops were few and guarded Longmen. Even if chi is as strong as a tiger, he can only look at the river and sigh.
In the late Northern and Southern Dynasties, the Northern Wei Dynasty was divided into the Eastern Wei (predecessor of the Northern Qi Dynasty) and the Western Wei (predecessor of the Northern Zhou Dynasty), with Yu Wentai controlling the Western Wei and Gao Huan controlling the Eastern Wei. The nominal capital of the Eastern Wei Dynasty was Ye, but Jinyang (Taiyuan) was the most important city in Gao Huan.
This means that Longmen will be the strategic focus of the struggle between the two Wei Dynasties. When the Eastern Wei controlled Longmen, it could stick to Jinyang, while the Western Wei controlled Longmen and could compete for the East. From then on, Longmen was the most convenient strategic passage, whether the Northern Qi attacked Guanzhong in the Northern Zhou Dynasty or the Northern Zhou attacked Hedong in the Northern Qi Dynasty.
During the Sui and Tang Dynasties, the strategic position of Longmen was still very important. Tang gaozu attacked Chang 'an from Taiyuan, and Li Shimin crossed the river to attack Liu Wuzhou, taking the road of Longmen.
To put it another way, people who can cross the natural barrier of Longmen are similar in nature to carp yue longmen, which embodies an indomitable spirit of going forward bravely.
