Common syndromes
Damp-heat diarrhea: the clinical manifestations are rapid onset, diarrhea as fast as an injection, yellow watery stools or mucus, fishy odor, and intra-abdominal bowel sounds. Pain, burning and pain in the anus. Or it may be accompanied by cold and heat, dry mouth and thirst without drinking much, chest and epigastrium tightness, red and astringent urine, yellow and greasy tongue coating, and slippery and rapid pulse.
Cold-damp diarrhea: loose stools, not very foul-smelling, abdominal pain, preferring warmth and pressure, abdominal distension, rice grains not melting, no desire to eat, heavy limbs and drowsiness. Or it may be accompanied by cold and heat headache, clear urine, white and greasy coating, and wet or slow pulse.
Diarrhea caused by food accumulation: Symptoms include diarrhea with abdominal pain, pain subsided during diarrhea, painful diarrhea again after a while, thick and sticky feces or mixed feces and water, unpleasant odor, distension and tightness in the chest and epigastrium, and constipation. Comfort, belching, soreness, abdominal fullness, anorexia, dirty and greasy tongue coating, and stringy and slippery pulse.
Diarrhea caused by liver qi invading the spleen: the stomach is slightly distended and painful before diarrhea, and incompletely digested food is carried during diarrhea. The pain does not decrease or worsens after diarrhea. Whenever it is triggered by mental stimulation or emotional stress, the two sides may feel distended or throbbing with pain. At the same time, symptoms such as loss of appetite, acid swallowing, belching, and sagging may occur. The tongue is light red with little coating, and the pulse is stringy.
Diarrhea due to hot knots: common diarrhea with yellowish smelly water or pure green water, pain around the navel, the abdomen refuses to be pressed or is visible when pressed, the epigastrium is full and stuffy, loss of appetite, short and red urine , yellow and greasy tongue coating, slow and slippery pulse.
Diarrhea due to spleen deficiency: Loose stools and watery diarrhea at times. Diarrhea worsens every time raw, cold, greasy or difficult-to-digest foods are eaten, or even the whole grain does not melt, or it may be like duck droppings, with dull pain in the abdomen, and a preference for heat. Pressure, loss of appetite, bloating after eating, sallow complexion, physical and mental fatigue, light and fat tongue, white coating, and deep and thready pulse.
Diarrhea due to kidney deficiency: Pain around the umbilicus before dawn, bowel borborygmus and diarrhea. The pain subsides after diarrhea, and the stool is thin, often mixed with indigestible food. Aversion to cold in the waist and abdomen, lukewarm limbs, clear and long urine, or increased nocturia. The tongue is light and fat, with many tooth marks, and the pulse is thin and weak.
