The Pineapple Festival, or the South Sea God's Festival, is held from February 11 to 13 of the lunar calendar every year, with the 13th being the main festival. During the festival, which is also known as the traditional Pineapple Temple Festival of Guangzhou folklore, villagers and good men and women from the Pearl River Delta area will come to the South Sea Temple in Huangpu from all directions in groups to pray for blessings, sightseeing, or shopping.
When the Pineapple Temple Fair originated, it is difficult to prove, one says it was in the Ming Dynasty, but from the Song Dynasty, Liu Kezhuang's poem, "The Incense and Fireworks in the City of Ten Thousand Homes, and the Fireworks in the Month of February, the residents come out of the empty alleys to go to the race. Residents go out in empty alleys to race to the Sea God Temple." At that time the temple fair may have been available.
So it is said that the Pineapple Festival is a folk festival with a thousand years of long history, and is rich in the local characteristics of Guangzhou.
