The Standard clearly states that salmon is a collective term for salmonids, including Atlantic salmon, rainbow trout, silver salmon, king salmon, sockeye salmon, fall salmon, pink salmon and so on.
So should rainbow trout be classified as salmon?
In the opinion of Chen Shunsheng, a professor at Shanghai Ocean University, the move is not appropriate. Chen said the rainbow trout and salmon are not the same kind of fish, rainbow trout is a freshwater fish, the form and the Pacific salmon close. The two are related, but rainbow trout is not salmon. Can freshwater fish be eaten raw?
