Pinus armandii has strong cold tolerance, and even can tolerate the absolute low temperature of -3l℃ in the north of its distribution area.
It is not heat-tolerant, and it grows poorly in places where the high temperature season is long. It has good drainage, can adapt to all kinds of soils, and is most suitable for deep, moist and loose neutral or slightly acidic loam. Not tolerant to saline-alkali soil, poor tolerance is not as good as Pinus tabulaeformis and Pinus bungeana.
Pinus armandii is a simple forest or coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forest on acidic yellow soil, yellowish brown loam or calcareous soil with cool and humid climate. A little dry and barren land can be born in limestone cracks.
