The main syndromes are cold drinks, lung stagnation and heat, and chest tightness and heat.

Cough, asthma, chest tightness, dysphoria, dry mouth and thirst, sore throat, excessive phlegm, bad breath, inability to lie down, pale or reddish tongue, white, slippery or yellowish fur, floating or tight pulse.

Shegan Mahuang decoction

Efficacy: Warming lung, promoting fluid production, reducing qi and resolving phlegm.

Indications: Cough, asthma, and cold drinks cause persistent phlegm in the throat, such as water birds croaking, water birds croaking in the chest when breathing, chest tightness, frothing, white or greasy fur, and tight or heavy pulse.

Comparison of the usage of the two prescriptions: Shegan Mahuang decoction and Houpu Mahuang decoction can both treat lung-cold drink syndrome, but Houpu Mahuang decoction can not only warm the lung and dissolve the drink, but also widen the chest, especially for those with heat stagnation and chest tightness. While Shegan Mahuang decoction has a strong effect of warming lung, dissolving drinks and relieving sore throat, but it has no effect of clearing heat.
