Under artificial breeding conditions, the suitable water temperature for P. vannamei can range from 16 to 35°C (gradient range), and the optimal growth temperature is 25 to 32°C. Relevant studies show that juvenile shrimps of about 1 gram grow fastest at 30°C; while large shrimps of 12 to 18 grams grow fastest at 27°C. The minimum temperature for culture of Penaeus vannamei should be above 18℃. When the water temperature is below 15°C, P. vannamei reduces or stops feeding; below 9°C, it appears to lie on its side or die; when the water temperature is above 35°C, the feeding and growth of P. vannamei are greatly affected.
