Cr 12 steel is a widely used cold working die steel with high strength, good hardenability and good wear resistance, but poor impact toughness. Mainly used for cold stamping dies and punches, cold cutting scissors, drill sleeves, gauges, wire drawing dies, stamping dies, wire rolling dies, etc. Small impact load and high wear resistance.
Extended data:
Advantages of Cr 12 steel
(1) Very high wear resistance. At the usual quenching temperature, this steel actually only dissolves a small amount of carbide. After annealing, the total amount of carbide is about 17%, and after heating at 1038℃, it can still retain about 14% at high temperature.
(2) High hardenability, which can be hardened by air cooling. Workpieces with a diameter of 200-300mm can be hardened with oil. This is because after heating at 1038℃, the high temperature austenite contains about 0.6% carbon and about 25% chromium.
(3) Small deformation. Cr 12 steel is called "micro-deformed steel" because of its low thermal expansion coefficient of high hardness carbide and a considerable amount of retained austenite in quenched steel, which has little deformation during quenching.
Defects of Cr 12 steel
(1) carbide segregation is serious, especially for rolled products with cross section greater than 40 mm.
(2) Under general production conditions, the quenching temperature fluctuates greatly, which will cause great changes in microstructure and properties.
(3)Cr 12 steel has high chromium content and high chromium consumption, which is not suitable for China's current resource situation.
