Eriocheir sinensis is an economic crab, also known as river crab, hairy crab, clear water crab and hairy crab.

The appearance of hairy crabs is characterized by green back, white belly, full claws, yellow hair and strong body.

Dongting Lake hairy crabs are the most famous, and have always been called the crown of crabs. It is a well-known trademark recognized by the State Administration for Industry and Commerce of China. Other famous hairy crabs are Taihu Hairy Crab, Yangcheng Hairy Crab and Changdang Hairy Crab.
