The ranks of American soldiers in active service are divided into 10, namely, third class, second class, first class, corporal, sergeant, staff sergeant, third-class master sergeant, second-class master sergeant, first-class master sergeant and master sergeant.

Officers are divided into second lieutenant, lieutenant, captain, major, lieutenant colonel, colonel, brigadier general, major general, lieutenant general and general (including four-star generals and five-star generals). In addition, the US military also has warrant officers, who are generally awarded to professional and technical personnel. It is divided into four levels: first-class warrant officer, second-class warrant officer, third-class warrant officer and fourth-class warrant officer.
