The prescription of this medicine comes from Yueju Baohe Pill in Shen Shi Zun Sheng Shu in Qing Dynasty, which is composed of seven herbs. This medicine, Cyperus rotundus and Radix Aucklandiae, soothes the liver, regulates qi and relieves depression; Chuanxiong promotes qi and blood circulation to treat blood stasis; Atractylodes lancea eliminates dampness and phlegm, and treats dampness and depression; Betel nut, medicated leaven and stomach treat dampness and depression; Gardenia clearing away heat and purging fire to treat fire depression. This medicine is based on Yueju Pill (Fructus Gardeniae, Massa Medicata Fermentata, Rhizoma Chuanxiong, Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, and Radix Aucklandiae), and adds Radix Aucklandiae and Arecae, thus enhancing the effect of stimulating appetite and promoting digestion. Clinically, it is used for stomachache (epigastric pain, hypochondriac pain, string pain), hypochondriac pain and liver depression. It is often used to treat fullness and noise, abdominal distension and pain, dyspepsia, mental depression, impatience and irritability, sighing, belching, irregular stool and so on.
