Fish glue is generally derived from the stonehead fish, is a dried product of the swim bladder, a fish organ used to adjust the sinking and floating, also known as fish bubbles, which contain gas. Because it is rich in gelatin, it is named fish glue, also called fish maw and flower glue.

Fish glue is mainly categorized into three kinds, which are gelatin, crude glue and swim bladder glue.
Gelatin is made from the skin and scales that are left over from the production of fish fillets without viscera, blood or meat. Crude glue does not freeze at room temperature and is easy to use, and is used as an adhesive for wood, leather, and so on. The swim bladder gelatin is yellow in color, translucent, and slightly fishy, and is used as a clarifying agent for beer and other beverages, and as a thickening agent for fruit juices and jams.
