Why do you want to eat zongzi in the Dragon Boat Festival? Every year during the Dragon Boat Festival, the Dragon Boat Race is held in the Dragon Boat Pool in Jimei. Many people will come around to watch, and some will take pictures as a souvenir.
When you get home, every household should make zongzi. How did this custom come about? I'll tell you today!
According to legend, these customs are to commemorate the great patriotic poet Qu Yuan. Qu Yuan was a doctor and poet in San Lv, Chu more than 2,200 years ago. The fatuous king of Chu, because of the slander of the treacherous court official, not only failed to adopt his anti-Qin proposition, but exiled him instead. In 278 BC, Qin Jun conquered the capital of Chu. Qu Yuan was heartbroken when he heard the news. On the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, he devoted himself to the excellent composition writer of Guluojiang and died. People rowed boats from all directions to come to the rescue and threw zongzi into the river for fish and shrimp to avoid hurting Qu Yuan's health. This is the legend of the origin of eating zongzi by rowing dragon boats on the Dragon Boat Festival.
In fact, there was a similar custom long before Qu Yuan. Because the patriotic poet Qu Yuan's moral character is noble, his poems are touching, and people respect him, they associate these activities with Qu Yuan. From then on, this legend quickly spread all over the country. In the Song Dynasty, the court officially designated May 5th as the Dragon Boat Festival!
