As a northerner, my favorite street snacks since I was a child are these two kinds, and they must be cooked first in the street to be delicious. The others are a little less interesting.
Street snacks change rapidly, many snacks slowly disappear from people's sight, and many new snacks occupy the public's field of vision. But baked sweet potatoes and candied haws are timeless and are classic snacks.
First, baked sweet potatoes
The baked sweet potato sold by the uncle pushing the car on the street is always hot, tender in the outside, and full of sweet smell of sweet potato when you take a bite.
Is there anything happier for a northerner to eat a steaming roast sweet potato on a freezing day?
Every winter, the baked sweet potatoes here sell very well. The grandfather at the gate of our community stays from 5 am to 0 pm 10 every day, and sells two sacks of sweet potatoes every day. These sweet potatoes turned into delicious baked sweet potatoes through his hands, which attracted people to buy them. Grandpa only works for about half a year every day, and the money he earns in the past six months is enough for him to drink spicy food in a year.
The love for baked sweet potatoes is probably the complex of every northerner. Anyway, I have never seen northerners who don't like baked sweet potatoes.
Second, sugar-coated haws
The history of candied haws seems to be longer. Anyway, we can see candied haws in many costume dramas, and the shouting of selling candied haws has become a craft imitated by artists.
Speaking of candied haws, it's a childhood memory of many people. I didn't like hawthorn since I was a child, but as long as I made candied haws, I could eat several strings immediately.
Sugar-coated haws are also one of the delicious foods in winter for northerners. Crispy frozen rock sugar with sour and sweet hawthorn is a kind of enjoyment when eaten in the mouth.
Although there are more and more kinds of sugar-coated haws in recent years, such as apples, yams, cherry tomatoes, kiwis, etc., the most classic in my mind is the sugar-coated haws made of hawthorn, which is the taste of childhood.
Nowadays, fewer and fewer people make their own candied haws, many of which are from wholesale. Although these candied haws are rich in variety, they are not as delicious as those made by hand, and they always feel a little less.
What street snacks can stay are classics, and many of them have disappeared with the development of the times. In fact, it is a pity.
Just like the sudden rise of sugar blowers in recent years, although the name is very loud, no one makes it or buys it now. Occasionally, people buy one just for fun. After all, there is nothing special about mass production by machines, and it is thrown away as soon as it is fresh. I hope my favorite baked sweet potatoes and candied haws will not disappear one day.
