According to local legend in Fengyang: Zhu Yuanzhang, the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty, was born in Fengyang. When he was young, his family was poor and he relied on begging to survive. 1. Zhu Yuanzhang asked for a bowl of Yong Tofu at the Huang Family Restaurant in Fengyang City. After eating it, he felt it was very delicious. From then on, he often went to this restaurant to beg for Yong Tau Foo. Later, he put on a dragon robe and became the emperor, so he ordered the chef from the Huang Family Restaurant in Fengyang City to be summoned into the palace to cook "Fengyang Yongdoufu" specially for him, and became the chef in his imperial dining room. From then on, this dish became worth hundreds of times and became a famous dish at the Ming Dynasty palace banquets. It also got the nickname of "Zhu Hongwu (the year of Zhu Yuanzhang's reign as emperor "Hongwu" in 1368) and became famous all over the world. It has been passed down to this day.
Today's "Fengyang Yong Tofu" is made from soft tofu, cut into slices, stuffed with minced pork, minced shrimp, etc., wrapped in egg powder batter, fried in oil until golden brown, and then sprinkled with sugar. It is made by adding gravy with vinegar. It has the characteristics of creamy yellow color, crispy outside and tender inside, sweet and sour taste.
