Ancient times. Historical records show that as early as the Yao and Shun Dynasties, there were already celebrations similar to the Spring Festival, but they were not yet on a large scale.

Yin and Shang Dynasties. Activities similar to the "New Year" began to be included in the rituals.

Western Zhou period. Celebration of the New Year began through some agricultural activities.

The two Han Dynasty. Formal New Year's rituals were formed, and firecrackers (then called "burning bamboo") began to appear.

Wei-Jin period. Firecrackers formally appeared, and began to have the custom of the "New Year's Eve" and worship activities.

Five Dynasties (Later Shu) period. Spring Festival couplets began to appear.

The Song Dynasty. Firecrackers made of gunpowder began to appear.

Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. New Year's traditions and customs gradually rich and mature and fixed.

Republican period. "Spring Festival" was formally established.

Before 1914 there was no "Spring Festival" this title. According to relevant historical records, "New Year" activities have appeared as early as the ancient times, and the "Spring Festival" called until the period of the Beiyang government.

January 1914, the Republic of China government of the Christian Gregorian calendar January 1 as New Year's Day, the first day of the first month of the summer calendar for the "Spring Festival". Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties: New Year's Day, Yuan Day, Year's Day, Xinzheng, Xinyuan.
