Three-screen fusion, what is three-screen fusion?
Editor Huang Chenxia and I exchanged this article online, which gave me a lot of inspiration and help. Later, she changed the title to "Three Screens Convergence: Unifying the Terminal or Let a Hundred Flowers Bloom", which I think fits this article very well. And my title, hehe, she thinks the academic tone is too strong. However, I really want to write a serious academic paper on the word convergence. In the topic of media convergence, 3C convergence, triple play and triple play are really worth clarifying.

On Thursday, several international academic celebrities came to the school.

There is a lecture in the evening.

I asked a question is new media a serious academic concept or not. Academically, if once said? It is a concept, which is not an easy task, and involves operational definition and dimensional analysis. These big names didn' t actually answer my question in public lectures, but they were more talking about $ term. However, after the lecture, one of them, John Pavlik, and I had a more detailed exchange. In his view, new media is an academic definition, which has two dimensions, one is communication mode, and the other is media integration.

In terms of the types of media, I think it can be roughly divided into two categories: propaganda media and interactive media. The former emphasizes propaganda, the subject is one-way communication and seeks persuation, while the latter emphasizes communication, the subject is two-way communication and seeks dialogue. Pavlik is divided into passive media and active media, which have the same effect.

The topic of media convergence is still two frameworks about the post-media era that I started this column a year ago (here

, and here

. ), I think, whether it is propaganda media or passive media, online (or external), interactive media or active media, offline (or internal), media integration is such a road full of internal contradictions.

Triple play and triple play are also such seemingly contradictory things. Another term for triple play is triple play, that is, getting through broadcasting, telecommunications and the Internet.

Unified into a big net. Three-screen integration is not. Three-screen integration refers to the integration of terminals, but it is not unified. This truth is a bit like the standard of highway should be unified (cars on the same track), but there should be all kinds of cars running on the highway. So, a bold idea that I pondered by myself is that since I have never heard that highways need to be charged (in fact, the charging mechanism in expressway, China is temporary in theory and does not quite conform to the so-called international practice), information expressway should not be charged either. Citizens should have the right to surf the Internet and human rights.

The dividing line of the text

With some operational obstacles encountered in triple play, people in the industry began to propose triple play. The so-called three-screen integration refers to the integration of three screens of TV, computer and mobile phone. It seems that these three screens correspond to three networks: radio and television network, internet and mobile internet (which is slightly different from the most standard triple play), which seems to be a phased step in the promotion of triple play.

There are two views on the integration of three screens. The first view is the interconnection of three screens (that is, terminals). For example, you can also enter the radio and television network to watch TV programs smoothly with your mobile phone. According to this view, the integration of three screens is not a step in the promotion of the integration of three networks. On the contrary, the integration of screens should occur after the integration of networks. If the network can't get through, all kinds of terminals will go their own way. What is convergence? Watching TV with a mobile phone is nothing new, but it is really not in the category of triple play. When I communicated with my colleagues, I said that if this view can be established, triple play and triple play are the same thing, and there is no need to recreate a concept.

Another view is common in some equipment manufacturers. It refers more to the unification of terminals. This view is common in industry because industry can no longer wait for the gods of triple play to fight. They are eager to put aside the issue of the jurisdiction of the future interconnected network and directly enter the commercial operation first. There is a reason why the industry thinks so. If a terminal sells well enough to become the only terminal that people use, then the problem of network convergence is no longer the pre-issue of their business promotion. Because the terminal is strong enough, in turn, it can bargain with the upstream operators, thus affecting and even forcing some unresolved operational problems of triple play. The question now is, is it possible for terminals to be unified?

I used to be optimistic about this trend, but as time went on, I became more and more disapproving. Let's take the three screens of TV, computer and mobile phone. In fact, the focus of discussion is on one application: seeing things. Yes, we can watch a video with TV or computer or mobile phone, but obviously, besides TV, the function of the other two digital devices is not just watching, more precisely, watching is not the main function of computer or mobile phone.

As I said in my previous articles, operating a computer is a private activity, while watching TV is more similar to a family activity. It is hard for me to imagine that when a user chats with other people on the computer, he wants his family to participate, except for some very special circumstances, such as parents chatting with children studying abroad. As for the mobile phone, its main function lies in mobile applications, including calls, short messages and even LBS (Geographic Location Service). Interactive application is the strength of mobile phone, and whether listening to music or reading e-books, mobile phone is just a temporary solution to kill boredom or something that must be solved now. When you can watch TV, do you watch movies with your mobile phone?

After a visit to the World Expo, I made up my mind to queue up to visit the Japan Pavilion. However, I thought
