Red beans
Wang Wei of the Tang Dynasty
Red beans grow in the southern country, and they sprout a few branches in spring.
I hope you will pick more of them, this is the most loved thing.
This poem is inspired by the red bean, which is known as Xiangsizi in the world. It first says that "red beans are born in the south", which makes people feel that the love of lovesickness is born with red beans. Then he asked, "How many branches will sprout when spring comes?", but no answer was given; however, it is warm and rainy in the south, and the spring breeze blows again, so the red beans sprout more than just a few branches, and the feeling of lovesickness is boundless. Wang Anshi's "Renchen Cold Food" "Guest thoughts are like willows, with thousands of spring breezes", which may have evolved from this.
The first two sentences only write about red beans but not about lovesickness, while the last two sentences combine red beans and thoughts into one thing and "advise you to pick more." "Jun" refers to the object of the lyrical protagonist's thoughts. Saying "I" how to think of "Jun" is easy to be blunt and superficial. The poet's brilliance lies in not saying "I" miss "Jun", but urging "Jun" to pick more "red beans" which are "most lovesick". This shows "I"'s infinite affection for "Jun" and my longing for each other. The infinite cherishment of love has spread from the sky.
The feeling of lovesickness is common to everyone, but it is difficult to express it. The beauty of this poem lies in holding red beans, expressing lovesickness, symbolizing comparison, speaking about something near and far away, the wind swaying, and the lingering emotions. Therefore, it can arouse readers' emotions and has eternal artistic charm.
