Amaranth, also known as green amaranth, red amaranth, red cabbage, rice amaranth, etc., for the amaranth family to the young stems and leaves for food, annual herbaceous plants, native to China, the Yangtze River Basin is widely cultivated, because of its resistance, easy to grow, like heat, drought, humidity, and fewer pests and diseases, is the public's favorite one of the main summer leafy green vegetables.
Expanded Information:
Growing environment
1, temperature
Amaranth prefers warmth and is more heat-resistant, and warm and humid climatic conditions are the most favorable for amaranth's growth and development. 10~12 ℃ seeds begin to germinate, and the best germination is at 22~24 ℃, and the germination and emergence of the seedling is affected when it exceeds 35 ℃. Amaranth is not cold hardy, growth in 0 ℃ below the low temperature will freeze and die, the temperature is lower than 10 ℃ plant growth is slow, the optimal growth temperature of 23 ~ 27 ℃, more than 35 ℃ when the plant growth is poor, fiber increase, quality deterioration.
2, humidity
Amaranth is not strict on air humidity requirements, require soil moisture, but do not tolerate flooding. Direct-directed amaranth, taproot deep into the soil, has a certain drought resistance, but sufficient soil moisture is tender leaves, quality is better. Amaranth tolerance of waterlogging tolerance is poor, excessive soil moisture or ground water, will affect the growth of death. Open-ground growth of multi-branched large clusters in heavy rain and windy weather, easy to fall.
3, light
Amaranth is a high-temperature, short-day vegetables, high-temperature, short-day conditions are easy to draw shoots and flowers, reduced food value. Different varieties also have early and late shooting and flowering, such as Guangzhou high foot pointed leaf shooting earlier, and Nanjing autumn not old shooting and flowering later. Spring cultivation, the temperature is suitable, long sunshine, amaranth shoots late, tender quality, higher yield; summer and fall sowing is easier to shoot and flowering, the product is more coarse old.
4, soil
Amaranth does not choose soil, fertile sandy loam or clay loam can be cultivated. Amaranth is a fertilizer-loving crop, usually with a deep layer of soil, rich in organic matter, fertile soil garden land is most suitable. Barren sandy land, cold slurry low wetland, poorly structured clay land, etc. are not suitable for cultivation of amaranth. Amaranth is well adapted to the soil and can grow in both acidic and alkaline soils, but has an optimum pH of 5.8 to 7.5.
