Normal dried silverbeet will rapidly expand 5 to 10 times in size after soaking in warm water, while spoiled silverbeet will not increase much in size after soaking. Spoiled silverbeet usually has a moist feeling, and may even smell sour or other unpleasant odors, and the taste may have a spicy flavor. If the fungus is too yellow in color or has an unusual yellow-white contrast, it may have been smoked with chemicals, in which case it is also unfit for consumption. To be on the safe side, it is recommended not to consume ginkgo ears if they show any of the above signs of deterioration. The right thing to do is to store the fungus in a dry, cool place without direct sunlight and make sure the package is well sealed to prevent it from absorbing moisture and becoming moldy. If the psyllium has yellowed and dried out, it is best to discard it to avoid any health risks.
