Morphological features perennial herb, 40 to 100 centimeters high. The underground rhizome is transverse, fleshy, white, with long fibrous roots at the nodes. Stem square, hollow, hairy tufts at nodes. Leaves opposite, lanceolate, apex acuminate, margin coarsely acute, densely glandular dotted below. Flowers in axillary whorls of 6 to dozens per whorl, white. Nutlets flattened, dark brown. The whole herb is collected in summer and fall and dried. The rhizomes (ground shoots) are collected in fall and winter and used fresh or dried in the sun.
