The Contractor of Black (original Japanese title: Darker than BLACK -黒の契约者-) is a Japanese television anime produced by BONES and Tensai Okamura, which began airing on April 5, 2007 on Mainichi Broadcasting and Tokyo Broadcasting Co. In Taiwan, two episodes will be aired on Animax from November 22, 2008 on Saturdays from 11:00pm to 12:00pm.

Synopsis
The inviolable realm of Hell Gate suddenly appeared in Tokyo ten years ago. The real starry sky disappeared and was replaced by fake stars. Superpowered people called "Contractors" began to appear everywhere. These ordinary human beings have lost their dreams and impulses, and have to pay the price for their abilities. As the mystery of the Gate unfolds, the spy agencies of various countries and the contracted persons are quietly fighting to the death in Tokyo. The story revolves around the fate of the man known as "Black", Messier's code name "BK-201", and the people around him.
Main Characters
Kuro (ヘイ) Voice: Hidetoshin Kiuchi, Freedom Ireno (as a child)
Messier's protagonist, codenamed "BK-201," has the ability to freely manipulate electrons. He belongs to one of the organization's action squads and carries out secret agent activities in Tokyo. Usually disguised as Chinese student Lee Sun-sang (李舜生(リ?シェンシュン)). シェンシュン)), living in the Kaietsu Sho apartment. In fact, he is not a real Contractor, but inherited his powers from his sister, Hakuba, so he doesn't have to pay for them. Kirsi's usual role is to be the caretaker of a tobacco store not far from Kuro's residence. Originally an apprentice of a famous pianist, she became a Doll of the organization after losing her father and mother for unknown reasons, and because of her special body type, she has very little emotion. As the story progresses, she gradually reveals her feelings and thoughts under the influence of Kuro and the others. He supports Kuro until the end of the story, calling out from the bottom of his heart to bring Kuro back to reality from the backwaters of time. An indentured servant who takes the form of a black cat and is in charge of operational support for Kuro's team. She has the ability to switch bodies (but only with animals other than her own), but due to a certain incident, she lost her original body and no longer has to pay the price. Misaki Kirihara (きりはら みさき) Voice: Nana Mizuki 27 years old, head of the Foreign Affairs Section 4 of the Public Security Department of the Police Department, mainly in charge of investigating cases related to contractors. Amber アンバー Voice: Renko Kawakami
Leader of the indentured servant group EPR. Messier code-named UB-001, she is also the first Contractor to be observed. Her ability is to manipulate time at the cost of regressing her physical age. Every time he uses his power, he shrinks in age by about 2 years. Formerly a member of MI6 under the code name February, he defected and joined the organization, and fought alongside Black and White during the South American War of Heaven, and was a trusted companion of the two siblings. He was one of the people who knew the true purpose of the organization. He assisted White in creating the seal of the Heavenly Gates, and later led EPR in the fight against the Organization and for the rights of the contracted individuals. After she and White discover the purpose of the organization, and knowing that Kuro won't believe it, she begins to act on her own being misinterpreted as a betrayal by Kuro. After the events in South America they were hated by Black recognizing them as betrayers, but finally reached a mutual understanding at the end.
White (白<パイ>) Voice: Yoshiori Nazuka, Yukiya Fujii (young)
Kuro's younger sister, contracted to be the true owner of Messier's code name BK-201. Abilities are the same as Kuro's, at the cost of sleep. The first indentured servant to discover the organization's true intentions. She loves stargazing. During the Heavenly War, she used meteor fragments to physically seal off the 1500km radius around the Gate of Heaven, thus preventing the Organization from annihilating the Gate. At the same time, he uses his material transformation ability to fuse himself into Kuro, making the latter a contracted person who inherits BK-201's abilities. At the end of the "Tokyo Big Bang", he said goodbye to Kuro in the strange space inside the Gate. His real name is Shin (Star).

Main Characters
Kuro (黒<ヘイ> Voice: Hidetoshin Kiuchi)
An assassin known as the "God of the Black Death". He is a special contracted person who can freely manipulate electric current without paying for it and holds a human heart, Messier code name BK-201. He was active behind the incident known as the "Tokyo Big Bang" and then disappeared. After two years, he reappeared in Russia in the image of a ghost with a long history. He is an agent of the CIA, but in reality, he was commissioned by Ms. Aurelio to escort Sufjan to Tokyo. On the other hand, he is pursuing the whereabouts of Gin relentlessly.
During the two years of his life on the run, he became y attached to Gin and swore that he would never leave him. After the shock of Gin's "evolution" and departure, he became disillusioned and believed that he was responsible for Gin's change. He claims to want to kill Izanami (Gin) with his own hands, but is unable to do so at critical moments. He does not get along well with his fellow travelers, including Sufang, at first, but gradually accepts each other and sees Sufang as his past self.
Season 2 opens with a weapon attack by the Anti-Contractor, who is incapacitated and transforms back into a normal human being, and spends most of the season in this state. At the end of the story, he regains his powers in the Gate and uses them on Silver, and the two disappear into the light of Oddworld, leaving only the star of BK-201 to reappear in the starry sky.
Sufjan Pavlicheco (Sufjan Pavlicheco) is a member of the BK-201 team. Pavlichenko (苏芳?パブリチェンコ Voice: Hanazawa Kana)
The main character and heroine of "The Twins of Meteor". A 13-year-old girl living in Vladivostok. Born to a Russian scientist father and a Japanese mother, she has a twin brother, Aster. She is an all-around athlete and has an outgoing personality with a competitive streak that is no less than that of a boy. She has a passion for photography, but has no interest in romance.
After a series of tragic deaths of friends and family, he mutates into a contracted person. Her ability is to make a PTRD-41 out of thin air at the cost of origami. Although she hates Kuro, who killed her father, she traveled to Tokyo with him to find her brother. In the process, she developed complex feelings for Kuro, which eventually turned into love.
Self is in fact a copy of Aster, who is only different in gender, while the real Sufjan died in a bombing in Moscow eight years ago. Most of the memories, including the aquarium, were faked using ME technology and lent to the meteor core for immobilization. The trip to Tokyo was just an experiment to test the effect of memory immobilization. Doll, a teenager in MI6, uses metal and glass as a medium for spiritual observation. After MI6's successive failures in Vladivostok, he is sent undercover with Black and Sufjan. Afterwards, he develops a strong companionable bond with Sufjan, and in the end, he chooses to follow Sufjan himself. Together with Sufang, he is sent by Izanami to a replica Earth to be reborn.
Kirihara Misaki (雾原未咲（きりはら みさき） Voice: Mizuki Nana)
Formerly the head of the Foreign Affairs Section 4 of the Public Security Department of the Police Department, she was responsible for investigating cases related to contracted persons. Since the end of Season 1, he has been "evolving" and has gradually gained a sense of autonomy and a humanoid Observation Spirit, who has developed the ability to turn on his contractors and has acquired a negative personality independent of his own. He is recognized as the "Izanami" described in the "Mitaka Document" and is hunted by various forces. She was found by the Third Organ and sealed in a special device and transported from Sapporo to the old Pandora Institute in Tokyo. In the end, he was awakened and appeared in black form inside the gate. He helped Aster complete the transfer of all human memories to the Replica Earth, and also sent away the souls of Sufjan and July.
After meeting with Black inside the Gate, he regained the consciousness of White Silver and asked Black to kill himself. Finally, he disappears inside the door with Black. "Gate"
The first season 10 years ago suddenly appeared at the ends of the earth, the unknown field with a diameter of 10 kilometers. The uncharted territory is 10 kilometers in diameter. The two "gates" are the "Heaven Gate" in Brazil and the "Hell Gate" in Tokyo. With the appearance of the gates, the space above the Earth beyond the stratosphere became inviolable. The stars and the moon disappeared and were replaced by a false starry sky. The sun became the only observable celestial body. "The Gate leads to the emergence of the Pact and the Doll, and can produce a variety of mysterious substances and species. Compacts
The Gates appear as random mutations of human beings with superhuman abilities. Typical Pactors are constructed with a completely rational mind, and are generally ruthless. Dolls
A special class of contractors, also mutated from humans. They have lost their emotions and self-awareness, and exist like dolls. They have the ability to manipulate spirits, but at no cost. They are widely used for intelligence gathering and are also sold as dolls, and there is a Doll Network that allows Dolls to communicate with each other; Dolls are also "evolving", the most radical example being Silver.
ME Technology
Meomory Erase, or memory erasure and tampering technology. It originated from the study of "gates" and was first pioneered by Dr. Pavlichenko. It is also derived from the ME Squeezer and ME Network theories. The latter is the basis for the extraction and transfer of all human memories in the Ark Program.
The Organization
The Organization is a huge shady organization that has infiltrated the power and intelligence agencies of every country in the world. Its full extent and ultimate purpose is a mystery. The Ark Project
Aster's plan to replicate Earth was compared by Aurelius to an ark that would preserve traces of human existence. To Aster it was a gift to Sufjan. In addition to Aster's abilities, the infusion of souls into those on Replica Earth must be assisted by Izanami. The entire process is documented by the Mitaka Instruments. The difference between the replica Earth and the original Earth is that there are no "gates" on the former.
