As we all know, Qu Yuan was a native of Chu State in the Warring States Period. He couldn't bear to see the country perish and died in the Guluo River on May 5th. In order to prevent Qu Yuan from being eaten by fish and shrimp, people rowed boats to salvage the bodies, and sprinkled their own cooked rice into the river. Since then, there has been the custom of dragon boat racing and eating zongzi every year on the Dragon Boat Festival.
The fifth day of the fifth lunar month is the traditional festival "Dragon Boat Festival" in China, and eating zongzi on this day is the traditional custom of our people in China. Zongzi, also known as "jiaoshu" and "zongzi", is a traditional festival food of the Han nationality during the Dragon Boat Festival, which is made by steaming glutinous rice wrapped in zongzi leaves. Legend has been circulated in memory of Qu Yuan, and it is the traditional food with the deepest cultural accumulation in the history of China.
Until now, people still follow this traditional custom. Every early May, zongzi are sold in the streets and alleys. Every family in China has to dip glutinous rice, wash zongzi leaves and make zongzi. This custom has also spread across the ocean to North Korea, Japan and Southeast Asian countries.
