The Northeast Sugarcane Seedling Breeding and Planting Base, the northernmost sugarcane planting area in China

In the history of sugarcane planting in my country, the planting scope was only limited to Hainan, Guangdong, and Fujian south of the Yangtze River. In other places, it has been the eternal conclusion that sugarcane cannot survive the river. The base began to explore sugarcane planting technology in 2003. Through unremitting efforts and the help of scientific research institutes, sugarcane varieties suitable for northern planting were selected. This variety has the characteristics of cold resistance, salt-alkali tolerance, high tillering rate, large yield, and can be planted in both dry fields and paddy fields. In the northern region, about 900 seedlings of sugarcane can be planted per acre, and each plant can retain 45 tillering seedlings (including the main seedling). Each acre of land can produce about 4,000 commercial sugarcane roots. The plant height can reach more than 3 meters, and the stem nodes are long. Generally, it is 20 centimeters, and more than 15,000 kilograms of commercial sugarcane can be harvested per mu. Due to the large temperature difference between day and night in the north in summer, which is conducive to the accumulation of nutrients and sugar conversion in sugarcane, the sugar content can reach 1520%, which is more than 10% higher than that of sugarcane in the south, and it can mature one month earlier.

In 2012, our base planted 2 acres of commercial sugarcane in Tangzhuang Village, Xinmin Township, Taihe District, Jinzhou City. 920 sugarcane plants were planted in one acre. It began to mature on October 1st and was harvested on the 13th and 14th. Jinzhou citizens pick them and the price is 50 yuan per plant (4 stems). You can choose freely. After deducting costs and waste losses, the net income per mu is more than 30,000 yuan. Leaders of relevant provincial and municipal departments spoke highly of this project and the quality of sugar cane. In 2014, the number of growers has spread throughout Liaoning Province and Jilin, Hebei, Shandong, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Xinjiang and other places.
