The State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine stated in April that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, it will promote inheritance and innovation, improve the quality of traditional Chinese medicine, strengthen the construction of the traditional Chinese medicine science and technology innovation system, and promote the establishment of authentic Chinese medicinal material production bases and Construction of quality traceability system for Chinese medicinal materials. Guangxi, Gansu, Yunnan, Sichuan and other provinces are important producing areas of authentic medicinal materials. In recent years, Guangxi has vigorously developed the cultivation of authentic Chinese medicinal materials in Guangxi, and the planting varieties include Uncaria and Artemisia annua. According to statistics in April, taking Rongan County in Liuzhou City as an example, 6,702 acres of artemisia annua were planted in the county. The output value of artemisia annua reached 10.72 million yuan, the average output value per household was 6,687 yuan, and the per capita net income increased by 618 yuan.
With the advancement of policies to protect and develop authentic Chinese medicinal materials, income from growing Chinese medicinal materials has become the main or even only source of income for local people in some poor areas of Gansu. According to statistics from the Gansu Provincial Department of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry in 2021, among the major Chinese medicinal material planting counties such as Longxi County, Weiyuan County, Min County, Dangchang County, Zhang County, Minle County, and Guazhou County, only Minle and Guazhou are non-poor. county. The income from growing Chinese medicinal materials in Meichuan Town, Min County accounts for more than 80% of the per capita net income of farmers; Qingshui, Xizhai, Min County, Shouyang, Longxi County, Awu, Dangchang County and other towns account for more than 70%. However, in recent years, the prices of some traditional Chinese medicines have fluctuated frequently, and the prices of authentic medicinal materials such as anise, nectarine, camellia, etc. have experienced a "roller coaster" market. The reason is that blindly following the trend and expanding planting area has become an important incentive in some areas.
In some areas, Chinese herbal medicines are being planted in droves, resulting in a situation where the quantity is increasing and the quality is decreasing. Wang Guoxiang, director of the Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine at the Gansu Academy of Agricultural Sciences, said that under normal circumstances, compared with growing food crops, the income from traditional Chinese medicine per mu is more than 1,000 yuan higher. Precisely because the benefits of planting Chinese medicinal materials are relatively good, many places have vigorously developed the cultivation of Chinese medicinal materials under the guidance of the government. In the future, we must pay attention to the role of modern advanced technology in traditional Chinese medicine, speed up the formulation of quality standards for traditional Chinese medicine, promote the construction of a quality traceability system for the entire industry chain of traditional Chinese medicine, increase law enforcement against illegal activities in the field of traditional Chinese medicine, and increase the cost of illegal activities.
