Planting techniques of yam

First, choose suitable varieties, and choose excellent varieties such as Bangyao and Xiaobaizui with strong disease resistance.

Second, choose sandy loam with high terrain, good drainage and deep soil layer. Loosen the soil and fertilize, and dig a deep ditch in the field in the north-south direction, with a width of 30 cm and a depth of 120 cm. Generally, ditches are dug alternately to facilitate operation. When digging, separate the upper and lower soil layers and pile them on both sides of the ditch. After airing for a few days, break the clods, tamp down the bottom of the ditch, and then fill in the subsoil respectively. When filling the topsoil, 5000 kilograms of farmyard manure and 50 kilograms of ternary compound fertilizer are applied to the interlayer, and compacted once every 20 centimeters.

Third, do border planting

When the temperature is maintained at 12℃ and the ground temperature is stable above 10℃, planting can be carried out. The annual sowing period in the middle of our province is around mid-April. Selecting the hard Chinese yam tail with disease-free roots as a seed block, which is 20 cm long, covering it with wet sand and plastic film 7- 10 days before sowing to accelerate germination. Ditching shall be carried out at intervals of 80 cm, with wide row spacing of 80 cm and narrow row spacing of 30 cm. The planting depth is 3-4.5cm, and the plant spacing is generally15-20cm. The yam tail is laid flat in the ditch in the same direction and covered with soil.

Fourth, on-site management

Choose 1-2 strong buds for those with many buds, and remove the others as soon as possible. If there are too many side branches, you can remove the base side vines and keep the upper side vines. After July, a large number of Lai Ji formed, which affected the growth of underground tubers, so some Lai Ji should be removed. After the emergence of Chinese yam, the vine should be supported, and the frame height is generally 1- 1.5 meters. Generally, 2-meter-long bamboo poles are inserted into two rows of herringbone frames in the same frame, and the brackets should be firm to prevent the later frames from being blown down by the wind. In the early stage of growth, intertillage weeding in Qin Ying is usually carried out once every half month until the vines grow to the first half. Generally, topdressing 1 time and urea 15-20kg are applied in the first half and the whole frame respectively, and some potash fertilizer or foliar fertilizer can be applied appropriately to improve the stress resistance and yield. Yam is a drought-tolerant crop. In order to increase the yield, 1-2 times should be lightly watered under the weather conditions of long drought and no rain. In case of rainy weather, the accumulated water in the border should be removed in time to prevent waterlogging.

Pest control. Anthracnose is a common disease in yam production. Once spots are found on the leaves, 500-fold solution of 50% mancozeb wettable powder or 800-fold solution of 50% carbendazim can be sprayed initially, usually 7- 10 day 1 time, 2-3 times. Nematode is a big pest of yam, and the control method is generally to evenly sprinkle 3 kilograms of 5% Mekepu granules in the planting ditch.

Five, timely harvesting

Yam is usually harvested when the stems and leaves are all withered, which is premature, low in yield and easy to break, affecting the quality. The harvesting time should be around the end of 10, before arriving in beginning of winter. Generally, harvesting begins at one end of the border. First, a pit 60 cm wide is dug, and people sit on the edge of the pit. Then use a yam shovel to shovel the soil along the lateral root of yam at 10 cm below the ground until the tip of tuber is seen at the bottom of yam ditch. Finally, when the tip is slightly loosened with a shovel, one hand holds the upper end of the yam seed, and the other hand shovels the lateral root behind it up along the tuber until the root system of the yam seed sticks to the stratum, so that a complete yam can be taken out. After drying a little, put it in storage. Handle with care when loading, unloading and transporting, and don't bump or break it, otherwise it will affect the value of the goods.
