What is Lu's chicken? Lu's chicken is one of the three local fine breed chickens in Henan (the other two are Henan Gushi chicken and Henan Zhengyang Sanhuang chicken). It is an ancient chicken breed suitable for raising in mountains. Lushi chickens are lightweight, strong in foraging, and resistant to rough feeding. Their living habits are very similar to those of pheasants, and their meat and egg quality is very good. Lushi chickens are stable because they produce many eggs, and some laying hens produce green-shell eggs.
Lushi chickens start laying at an average age of 170 days, with an average starting weight of 1170g, egg weight of 44g, and annual egg production of 150 to 180. Most of the eggshells are pink, and about 3.6% are green-shelled eggs. The fertilization rate of breeding eggs is 94.6, and the hatching rate of fertilized eggs is 93.7. They rarely nest in the first year, but become more likely to nest in the second year.
