Sour pulp
Nature and taste: sour and bitter, cold in nature, with the functions of clearing away heat and toxic materials, relieving sore throat, benefiting intestines and treating colds.
Alias: Sesame pulp, Golden Dragon, Cannabis grass, Buzaicao, Lantern Bubble, Bitterness W-Dan, Juncus, Pixiecao, Tianpaocao, Luowanzhu, Sweet Goose Bird and Hanging Golden Lantern. Hakkas call it Lalazi and Lantern.
Origin: Physalis alkekengi is native to hillsides, fields, rivers, ditches, roadsides and around houses, and in the damp places of wasteland.
Growth pattern: it is a perennial herb of Solanaceae, with thick nodes, square edges, a plant height of one foot to two and a half feet, many branches, and a block-shaped stem traversing underground. Leaves alternate. Usually, two leaves are born on nodes. The ridge of leaves is three or four centimeters long, oval or broadly oval, with sparse and irregular notches or waves at the edge. The leaves are five or six centimeters long and two or three centimeters wide. The veins are yellow-green, the main veins are clear, and there are five to seven pairs of branches, and the main veins radiate to both sides. White flowers bloom in summer and autumn, and the flowers are solitary in the axils of leaves and droop. The bell-shaped fruit of corolla is a berry, spherical, with a long stalk tied to the center of the calyx, which is lantern-shaped. The calyx turns from green to red when the fruit matures. The calyx has reticular veinlets and five obvious branches, loosely surrounding the berries.
