Second, avoid old-fashioned feeding. Taihu sow, as a new type of lean sow, is very different from the old Taihu pig in feeding mode, with high feeding requirements and feed quality. If the old method is adopted, it will easily lead to the phenomenon that adult sows are small, poor in physique and difficult to breed in estrus.
Third, avoid premature reproduction. Taihu sows mature early, that is, they reach estrus at about 4 months old and can only be bred at 6-7 months old, weighing about 70 kg. If you breed too early, it will not only do some harm to the sow itself, but also indirectly affect the farrowing and breeding rate, so it is not appropriate for Taihu sows to breed too early.
Fourth, avoid blind greed. Taihu sows have many different requirements from old Taihu pigs in feeding management. Breeders who have some experience in raising old Taihu sows need to update their concepts and raise them according to new methods, but those who have no practical experience for the first time should not blindly be greedy and rush headlong into it. In order to protect and develop this precious resource, Taihu Pig Breeding Center was established in Suzhou in May 2005, 1984. In the past 20 years, the Breeding Center has built a "National Key Livestock and Poultry Farm" and bred a new national pig variety-Tai Su Pig. Twenty years later, the breeding center plans to establish a living gene bank of Taihu pig to further preserve some original pig breeds that have become less and less. At present, the high-yield Erhualian pig and the most representative Meishan pig have entered the gene bank in advance for isolation breeding. In the next decade, the gene bank will effectively develop and utilize Taihu pig and cultivate new pig breeds while retaining varieties and breeding.
