1, Cold Food Festival stretches for more than 2,000 years, and was once called the largest folk festival in China. Cold Food Festival is the only traditional festival of Han nationality named after food customs.
2. The origin of the Cold Food Festival. According to historical records, during the Spring and Autumn Period, Zhong Er, the son of the State of Jin, fled into exile in other countries for 19 years, and the minister Jiezitui always followed the left and right. Even Zhong Er, a "cut-share monarch", made great efforts to become a generation of famous monarch "Jin Wengong".
3. However, meson tui didn't seek fortune, so he retired to Mianshan with his mother. Jin Wengong ordered Yamakaji to be released in order to force him out of the mountain, but meson tui was determined not to go out of the mountain and eventually died of fire. Jin Wengong remembered his loyalty, buried him in Mianshan, built a shrine and built a temple, and ordered the ban on cold food on the day of Jietui's death, in order to express his grief. This is the origin of the "Cold Food Festival".
4. The Cold Food Festival actually follows the ancient habit of changing fire. In the early spring, the climate is dry, and the kindling preserved by people is easy to cause fires and mountain fires. Therefore, the ancients have to hold grand sacrificial activities in this season to put out all the kindling handed down from the previous year, which is "no fire".
5, and then after a period of time (historical records vary in length, some places as long as several months), re-drill and take out a new fire as the starting point of production and life in the new year, which is called "changing the fire" or "inviting a new fire".
6. When the fire is changed, a grand sacrifice activity should be held to burn the symbol of Gu Shen Ji, which is called human sacrifice. When the customs were followed, the later Fire Ban Festival was formed. During this period of no fire, people must prepare enough cooked food to live with cold food, which is called "cold food", hence the name "Cold Food Festival".
