Why is there an area in Lianjiang in Maoming?
When we look at the map of Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province, we will find that two pieces of land in the northernmost part of Zhanjiang City "flew" to Maoming City. This is what we often call an "enclave". Simply put, it is the land belonging to Zhanjiang, but it is not directly connected with the main area of Zhanjiang, and it needs to cross the areas under the jurisdiction of other cities to reach it.

Zhanjiang City is located in Leizhou Peninsula, facing Hainan Province across the sea, bordering Maoming City in Guangdong in the northeast and Yulin City in Guangxi in the northwest. Lianjiang is the northernmost city in Zhanjiang. These two enclaves are several villages under Lianjiang, which is the northernmost place in Zhanjiang.

Both enclaves belong to Shijiao Town, Lianjiang City. On the east side of Hedi Reservoir, there is only one small village-Changdong Village, which is located in Lanshan Town, Huazhou City (under Maoming's control). Although Changdong village is also an enclave, it is not much different for the villagers because it is close to the jurisdiction of this city.

Another large enclave, in the northeast of Hedi Reservoir, is called Shandi, which, as the name implies, should be a relatively flat valley. This is indeed the case. This enclave is surrounded by mountains, and there are three administrative villages, namely Tiantou, mountainside and Banyan. The bottom of the mountain is surrounded by Huazhou City and Luchuan County, Yulin City, Guangxi.

Although the bottom of the mountain is not very big, it is only about 50 square kilometers, but there are many people, more than 10 thousand people. Because it is not connected with the jurisdiction of Lianjiang City, and there is a Hedi Reservoir in the middle, the villagers at the bottom of the mountain have to borrow Daohua City if they want to be in Lianjiang City. Or go out to Guangxi first, and then detour to Lianjiang, which is really troublesome. Moreover, there are mountains all around, and the road conditions are not very good. There is no bus or direct bus to the city or town, so you can only ride a bike. It's still quite a struggle to go to the city.

Why not put the bottom of the mountain under the jurisdiction of Huazhou City or Yulin City, Guangxi? This will be more convenient for the villagers. In fact, two or three times after liberation, it was planned to delimit the bottom of the mountain to Huazhou and send people to do the work, but the villagers at the bottom of the mountain disagreed and had no choice but to give up, so this situation has continued until now.

Since it is more convenient for everyone and more conducive to management, why don't people at the bottom of the mountain agree? Because people at the bottom of the mountain are nostalgic, they think they are Lianjiang people and have special feelings for Lianjiang. Feelings sometimes really can't be understood according to common sense. People at the bottom of the mountain attach importance to feelings. In fact, we can see some clues from another thing.

As an enclave in Lianjiang City, the existence of the bottom of the mountain is quite special. What is even more special is that most people at the bottom of the mountain are surnamed "Liu Fu". We see more compound surnames like Zhuge and Ouyang, but Liu Fu is really rare, and most people have never heard of it. The surname Liu Fu actually has a history of several hundred years, and there is a touching story about this surname.

During the Ming Dynasty, Fu Luan moved to Lianjiang with his wife, son Fu Lichuan and sworn brother Liu Rong. As a result, he died halfway, leaving orphans and widows, leaving the orphans to his brother Liu Rong. Liu Rong raised Fu Lichuan, and when he grew up, Fu Lichuan changed his surname to Fu Liu to repay his adoptive father's kindness. Wan Jin, the son of Lichuan, went to catch the exam. When he signed up, the examiner had never heard of this surname and was quite puzzled. After hearing the reason, he thought that life is not as good as raising, and Liu should be put in front of Fu. Wan Jin agreed very much, so he changed his surname to Liu Fu, and later Liu Fu was abbreviated as Liu Fu, which gave him the current Liu Fu surname.

Liu Fu's descendants are flourishing and become Lianjiang's surname. At the bottom of the mountain, Liu Fu's family and Liu's family name are both big names, and they have made good friends for generations, and they have built a spectacular Liu Fu's ancestral hall, which has become a cultural relic protection unit.

Judging from the origin of the surname Liu Fushi, Liu Fushi's people are very nostalgic and sentimental, which may be the reason why the people at the bottom of the mountain would rather bear the trouble brought by the enclave and not far from being placed under Huazhou City.
