Nanpanjiang is called Pearl River after leaving the country. Nanpanjiang, called Wenshui or Panjiang in ancient times, is the main stream of Xijiang River in the Pearl River Basin. Nanpanjiang River originates from the eastern foot of Maxiong Mountain, the remaining vein of Wumeng Mountain in Qujing City, Yunnan Province, and passes through Xingyi City, Guizhou Province to Hongshui River in Guangxi. Nanpanjiang is an integral part of the Pearl River. The rich Pearl River consists of five sections from top to bottom: Nanpanjiang, Hongshui, Qianjiang, Xunjiang and Xijiang.
