Giant tongue fish are allowed to be raised by individuals. According to the inquiry of the Chinese government website, the Regulations on the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases of Aquatic Animals issued on April 2, 20021year stipulates that the breeding of giant tongue fish needs to apply for the corresponding breeding license and allow individuals to raise it. Arapaimagas (scientific name: Arapaimagas), alias walrus, is an animal belonging to the genus Arapaimagas, which is distributed in the Amazon River basin of South America and is listed in the Red List of Endangered Species of the World Conservation Union. Arapaimagas is the largest freshwater fish in South America. Adult fish can reach 2~6m in length, with huge body shape and slightly flat body length. There is no need for a big mouth, no mandible, strong and developed teeth on the tongue, abundant blood vessels around the swim bladder, honeycomb-shaped inner surface and often special suprabranchial organs. The scales are large and hard, inlaid, with round caudal fin, gray-green body, dark back, light abdomen, red caudal fin and back. It feeds on fish, shrimp and frogs and has strong brute force.
