What is it like to eat Japanese food in Silicon Valley?

Everyone knows about Silicon Valley, but many people may not know what kind of area the so-called Silicon Valley actually is.

What we call Silicon Valley is actually Santa Clara County in the San Francisco Bay Area. At first, it mainly produced semiconductor chips, and the silicon used in the chips. In the 1970s, there was an American journalist who first

This area was first called Silicon Valley.

Several universities have long taken root here. The University of California, Berkeley, the University of California, San Francisco (the world's top medical center), and Stanford University are all famous schools with hundreds of years of history. These schools constitute the academic center of the western United States.

——So, relying on the scientific research resources and talent resources of these schools, Silicon Valley has been able to form a world-class technology center.

What is it like to have a Japanese meal in Silicon Valley?

We were shopping on University Street next to Stanford and tried a Japanese restaurant there. The sushi was obviously modified according to American tastes. It added mayonnaise and Japanese teriyaki sauce. The portion was generous, and one portion was enough to feed you.

It's a very American style to satisfy one person; the sukiyaki pot in this store has also been improved, and the saltiness in the bottom of the pot is lower than that in Japan. We know that the soup in sukiyaki pot in Japan is on the salty side.

The grilled eel in this restaurant is great. One eel is divided into three ways to eat it. First, eat the kabayaki eel without adding anything; then add wasabi, green onions and nori to add flavor; finally, ask the chef to make it into Ochazuke rice.

Progressing step by step, this way of eating is in line with the Japanese attitude towards things, which not only takes care of various taste preferences, but also adheres to the traditional style of Japanese cuisine.

On the way back, we discussed that besides white people, Indians and Chinese are the most populous in Silicon Valley. It’s not surprising that there are many Indian and Chinese restaurants. Why are there so many Japanese restaurants?

We learned the answer to this question while walking on the Stanford campus and visiting the headquarters of Apple and Google.

Stanford, one of the top universities in the world, has no walls like many American universities.

There are many outdoor facilities in the school. Almost all student dormitories have sports venues downstairs, and we even saw a beach volleyball court. We were in a public space that looked like a study room and saw students discussing and wearing shirts.

There are blond guys wearing hot pants, hot Hispanic girls wearing hot pants, as well as oriental faces and Indians. This scene is reminiscent of Stanford’s school motto (The wind of freedom always blows).

Many of the buildings on this century-old campus were designed by master designers and have a strong sense of history. If you look carefully while walking, you won't be able to finish it in one day.

When I visited the corporate headquarters of two major companies, Google and Apple, I had two completely different feelings. Apple pays attention to design, and all design details are obsessive-compulsive. Even the wood used in the indoor furniture is exactly the same.

The details are flawless; as for Google, the overall feeling is much better than the rigorous and demanding feeling brought by Apple, and it is also more casual and joyful.

But one thing is the same. The entire Silicon Valley is a small United Nations, especially with many Chinese and Indian faces: in fields such as computers and mathematics, foreign employees account for 60%.

Why is Silicon Valley able to attract so many people?

First, because Silicon Valley is a place full of opportunities. Many newly graduated college students can receive an annual salary of 6 figures in US dollars right out of school, as well as insurance, bonuses and other benefits, and the working environment is also very good.

Second, life in Silicon Valley is really comfortable.

First of all, the climate is very good, and it is relatively safe. Basically, the house is open at night and the streets are not picked up.

Third, Silicon Valley can teach an entrepreneur to think about "how can my company change the world?"

Although many people are now saying that Silicon Valley is in decline, it is undeniable that companies in Silicon Valley, such as Google, Apple, and Facebook, have indeed changed the world with their own spirit of exploration.

Why do Indians become Silicon Valley executives?

The problem here is definitely not the ability of the Chinese people, but more about cultural differences and ways of thinking.

First, some people say that Indians speak English better. This is one reason, but it is only superficial.

From a historical perspective, India’s self-positioning and education methods are centered on Britain and the United States.

The United Kingdom and the United States have the same roots. The first people to land on the American continent and the last to become independent were the British. India was a British colony. Although it later became independent, it was still a Commonwealth country.

Second, it is related to national character.

Indians are really good at expressing themselves. If they have a job, they will rush to fight for it, and if they have achievements, they will rush to take credit. Europeans and Americans have a more direct way of communicating, and they like this kind of communication very much.

Third, speaking ability. The United States is a place that attaches great importance to this ability. If you look at the past American presidents or the presidents of large companies, they are all good orators and have the power to incite. Indians are better than East Asians in this aspect.

And we have to look at the other side of the matter. India is worried about the serious brain drain in the country, but more and more Chinese people choose to return to China to start their own businesses after gaining some experience in Silicon Valley.
